• Workout For The Right Reasons


    Have you ever taken a moment to think about what drives your motivation to exercise? It is so easy to get caught up in the aesthetics of working out. We all want the tight, lifted booty and the washboard abs. We all want the perfect beach bodies for summer so we can feel the most confidence strutting down the beach. How many times have we overworked our bodies in the gym for an upcoming vacation or to look perfect for photos or to drop a pant size? We are all guilty of falling victim to this mindset. I want to be your mirror and help you reflect for a moment on why it is you work out. What drives you?

    Being able to wake up in the morning with air in our lungs and the ability to move our bodies is a gift. It’s a gift that so many of us take for granted. We forget to honor, love, and respect our body. I challenge you to think about these beautiful reminders and start shifting the way you think about health and fitness. Look at yourself and working out in a new lens with a new perspective.

    Here’s some food for thought to help you change your mindset about working out!

    1. Love your body, don’t punish it

    Treat your body with love. Don’t use working out as a punishment for eating that donut. Don’t spend 2 hours on the treadmill because you had In-n-Out for dinner last night on the way home from a long day at work. Show your body some love. Talk to yourself in the mirror and give yourself a compliment. Look at yourself in the mirror the way you look at a friend. If you wouldn’t say it to your closest friend, it shouldn’t be something you say or think about yourself. Workout to feel empowered. Workout to feel stronger. Exercise because you love your body, not because you want to punish it.

    1. Live the longest, healthiest life possible

    In today’s society, obesity and chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are directly linked to poor lifestyle habits. Exercising regularly is so important to prevent serious health issues in the future. Daily exercise is recommended for a strong heart and optimum health. Working out is not just about the external look, it is important for inner health and the prevention of disease.

    1. Have fun!

    Working out should be fun! It’s fun to get together with friends and move your body. Exercising doesn’t mean spending hours in a gym. Go for a hike, join a running club, take a Zumba class, or come take group fitness classes at BODI. Find something you enjoy and working out will become less of a chore and more of a hobby.

    1. Remind yourself of your goals

    Lastly, remind yourself of your goals during your work out. Check in with yourself throughout the workout. Let your goals motivate you and inspire you. Be proud of every workout. Whether is 10-minutes or a solid 45-min workout, be proud of yourself.
