    We are all too familiar with the nonstop stress of endless to-do lists and hectic schedules on a daily basis. Unfortunately stress is an inevitable part of life, but learning to cope with stressors is the key to happiness. Stress increases hormone levels (cortisol) within the body, which causes the body to go into “fight or flight” survival mode. Not only is this excess cortisol mentally draining, but also causes inflammation in body that can lead to organ damage. Stress impairs sleep, causes weight gain, and decreases energy levels. I’m sure everyone can agree that stubborn weight tends to make an appearance during times of stress. No matter how perfect your diet and exercise routine may be, stress may be hindering your results. Stress also makes us more susceptible to make poor dietary choices including more sugary, fatty, and comfort foods leading to unwanted weight gain. You’re not alone… we have all reached for our good friends Ben & Jerry when stress is too overwhelming to handle. Then we stress because we are stress eating which enhances the stress and the vicious cycle never ends!


    Here are 10 helpful tips to say goodbye to stress and start regaining control over your life!


    1. Sweat it out!

    Legally blonde said it best, “Endorphins make you happy, and happy people just don’t shoot their husbands...they just don’t!” When you work out your body releases feel good hormones called endorphins. When is doubt, go sweat it out! Your body will thank you and it’s an instant mood booster.


    1. Take a bubble bath

    Light a candle, turn on some Netflix, grab a glass of wine, and soak away your worries.


    1. Go take a drive & listen to your favorite music

    Driving can be so therapeutic especially when listening to your favorite playlist. Roll your windows down, turn up that feel-good music, and take in the beautiful scenery around you.


    1. Treat yoself

    Nothing relaxes me more than a spa day. Treat yourself with a massage, facial, or mani/pedi. Taking time for self-care is so important to reduce stress and anxiety.


    1. Aromatherapy

    Essential oils like eucalyptus and lavender are stress-relievers that help calm the mind and reduce anxiety. Put a few drops on the wrist or behind the ears to gain all the benefits.


    1. Yoga

    Yoga is a great way to connect with yourself and quiet your mind, while also providing a beneficial workout.


    1. Get outside

    Spending time in nature, hiking, and soaking up all the vitamin D has been shown to improve mood and alleviate stress.


    1. Call a loved one

    Talk to a friend or family member and remember what’s most important in life. Ask them to go for a drink, go see a movie, get dressed up and go to your favorite restaurant. Distract yourself by doing something that will bring you joy with good company


    1. Get some zzzz’s

    Getting at least 8 hours a night can reset your circadian cycle and help balance your hormones. This will give you more energy throughout your day to be productive, which can help you feel less stressed.


    1. Journal

    Write out your feelings and list all the things you are grateful for in your life. Focus on the positive aspects of life instead of dwelling on the everyday stressors.


    Don’t give stress the power to control your life anymore! Relax, breathe, & sweat it all out. Life’s too short to give stressors anymore of your energy. There’s too much to be thankful for in this beautiful world!
