• How I got my start

I have always been active and had a passion for movement. However, It wasn’t until my Senior year of high school that I started to develop a passion for fitness. I had a dance coach that made a point to have us workout each and every practice. She treated us like the athletes we were. At first it was hard and grueling, but slowly I started to fall in love with it. I loved challenging myself and trying to be better at every practice and during every workout. That is the first time that I remember saying I wanted to be a trainer.

Now, for awhile I had my eyes set on something a little bit different. I wanted desperately to be an NBA dancer. I made that dream a reality, but I put training on hold. It was always something that I was interested in and had in the back of my mind. I would constantly workout with and learn from different trainers but at the point in time I was pursuing dancing. I was working out one day with my trainer Ryan in Arizona ( Ryan Read, Thrive ) and he had a guest join us for that workout. Her name was Nikki Metzger. She just moved here from Chicago and was a Nike Master Trainer. She was also opening up a new gym in Scottsdale in the coming months. We had a great workout and had fun competing back and forth with each other. At the end of the workout I got her information and chatted about her gym, BODI. I told her I would check it out and that I did.

January 1st the day that BODI opened I was there. Ready to start my new year with a sweaty and awesome workout. I fell in love with what BODI was all about and I continued to workout there as often as I could. During this time I fell even more in love with fitness and training and I knew without a doubt that one day I wanted to be a trainer. I finally decided to commit and get certified.

Now, I am not even kidding you the day after I decided to do this Nikki asked me what I was going to do with the Suns season ending. Having just made this decision , I told her with all kinds of enthusiasm, that I was going to get certified as a personal trainer and that it was something that I have always wanted to do! The next day she emailed me and asked if I would want to intern with her. I immediately messaged her back and said YES! I was so excited and couldn’t believe that she wanted me.

I ended up interning for her for a few months and then my internship turned to a part time position at BODI. I still couldn’t wrap my head around it. I was actually doing what I had always wanted to do. At this point in time I was dancing for the Suns, Working a full time desk job and working part time at BODI. I know right, way too much. Well it took some rough patches for me to finally realize that I was spreading myself so thin that I was not able to give my best at any of the things that I had going on. The time had come for me to stop dancing. I made a promise to myself that I would never stop dancing until I found something that I loved just as much as dance. I had found that in training. I gave up my position as a Suns Dancer so that I could give my new dream my all and my whole heart. I can truly say that that sacrifice has paid off. I am now working full time at BODI as an instructor, trainer and manager. I am also a certified personal trainer and a certified sports and exercise nutrition coach. I have done tv and news segments as a “Fitness Expert” and have been booked as a fitness model on multiple occasions. I just started my own training company called MadFit. I am living a dream that I always wanted but never thought was possible!
